The guys in The Motherjumpers have been playing together on and off and off and on for many years now. That’s what friends who like to play music together do.
In late 2003/early 2004, as Tommy was playing solo acoustic shows, Paul, Michael, Christian, and Chuck started sitting in on these shows… singin’ and playin’ and havin’ fun. Eventually, they all decided to "get serious" and try being a real band and see where that got them (aside from drunk).
After months of playing, then a short hiatus ( aka a break up), The Motherjumpers reformed in July 2005… this time better then ever!!!
Which brings us to NOW; 2006.
Their debut CD, creatively titled ‘THE MOTHERJUMPERS’, was released in April. They’re gigging all over New York City, with dates at some pretty well-known and well-respected rock venues, and are planning out-of-state shows as well. They are handsome and talented men, with a penchant for a good wisecrack, the love of a good cocktail, and the desire for a good time. Come on out to a show and see for yourselves…
Chuck began his musical career as a member of the popular eighties band "Time Travelers", whose rise to stardom was quickly halted by a much anticipated appearance on the Jayson Starr cable access show ( which was cancelled shortly thereafter). After several incarnations and line-up changes, Chuck left the group to pursue his interest in drinking, leading to a short stint in rehab… which was fortunately unsuccessful. In the mid-90's he began doing session work under the moniker Sugar Quaye Jetty, recording such classics as "On the Wave" and that other one.
Forced to join The Motherjumpers as part of a plea bargain (stemming from an earlier drug arrest), he began playing drums (they agreed they needed a drummer, leaving behind their original concept of a drumless rock band). Chuck's technique has been described as "inconsistent" and “not that good", to which he responds-" I'm less consistent on the piano, and that's my true instrument… if you discount trumpet."
Chuck has homes in New York, Brooklyn, and Kings County, where he currently resides with his fiancé Roxie Jo Johnson.
My brother Tommy and I have been playing music together since I bought my first bass guitar, a Charvel Jackson. He usually writes the song and I write the bass line. I have one duty in this band...to PLAY BASS!!!
Hey. I’m Tommy. I play rhythm guitar and sing in The Motherjumpers. I also hit the tambourine on our recordings. Fun stuff! I was 16 when I wrote my first song and 18 when I played my first show. Now I’m a lot older than that, but I still get great satisfaction from writing a good song, be it a melancholy ditty or a rockin’ number!
In early 2004 I started playing my songs with the guys (we had all played together before then, in various combinations for various reasons), which would soon come to be known as THE MOTHERJUMPERS. Anyway, I’m proud to have these guys playin’ my songs, and I’m proud to be playin’ theirs. When it’s good, it’s really good… and when it’s really good, it’s fuckin’ great! There’s nothing in the world I’d rather do than be a Motherjumper. (Well, maybe win the lottery…)
When not tracking his arch rival, the diabolical Lord Fishback, Christian volunteers his time to sing and play guitar in the popular rock outfit, The Motherjumpers. Along with being a founding member of the late 1970's radical activist group, “The Stubborn Four", Christian has garnered notice as an up-and-comer in the world of competitive wine making. His "Chateu Skinzo" took 14th place at the Orlando Wine Festival, one critic commenting that "It tastes like rotten fruit. Rotten fruit and cat piss." Sweet victory!
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, I started playing the piano when I was 13. After 2 years of lessons, I switched over to the guitar and have been playing/writing riffs/songs ever since. I am continually inspired by guitarists such as: Slash, Mike Einzinger (Incubus), Stone Gossard and Mike McCready, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, and John Petrucci.
